The Lady Trojans softball team dropped a pair of games at home to Bark River Harris on Friday, April 28. Despite the losses the team’s record stands at an impressive 4 and 2 after six games.
Faced with a strong Broncos pitcher who combined speed and accuracy, the Trojans had difficulty getting traction in the first game of the doubleheader. Eleven Trojans went down on strikeouts as Forest Park scratched out only a handful of hits and was uncharacteristically a bit shaky in the field. The team dropped the opener 15–1, only managing to eke out a run in the fourth inning to prevent the shutout.
“We knew Bark River was going to be good competition for us,” said team coach Kimberly Pekarek. “Unfortunately, we couldn’t catch up to the speed of the pitcher in the first game.”
In the nightcap, the Trojans came out ready to play. After scoring three runs in the first inning, the Trojans stayed close in a back and forth game. The Trojans kept the game tied at seven points until the final at-bat for Bark River, when the Broncos scored three and the Trojans couldn’t answer.
“Losing both ends of a double header is always difficult, but we are working hard and as we get more experience we are going to only get better,” Pekarek said.
