Completing their regular season with a winning record, a winning attitude and a lot of excitement about the future is more than anyone could have expected when the Forest Park School Board approved the start of the school’s softball program just two years ago.
While many new athletic programs take years to develop, the second year of softball at Forest Park has seen a vastly improved team post a winning end of the year and has some wondering just how far this program can go.
“We are very fortunate to have a number of strong athletes already involved in the program,” stated Coach Kimberly Pekarek. “Charlie Larsen leads our offense and defense, has an impressive on base percentage and has a very high softball IQ. Coming from Wisconsin where she had a lot of experience.”
The Lady Trojans finished their regular season with a record of 11 wins and 7 losses. In improving from a four-win season in their inaugural year (2022), the Trojans can feel good about what they have done as a team.
After winning their first four games the Trojans ran into some very strong teams and has a .500 record for most of the season. They finished their season on a four-game winning streak by beating both Munising and Rapid River in double headers.
