Local rifle team earns numerous awards

SAGOLA - Four members of the Sagola Township Sportsmens Club youth shooting program recently attended the Brown County 4-H Shoot at the DePere Sportsmens Club in DePere, Wisconsin.
Participants were broken into three age categories. The disciplines held at this event were: .22lr Sporter, .22lr Hunter, .22lr Silhouette, Air Rifle
Sporter, Air Rifle Hunter, Air Rifle Silhouette, Trap Shotgun, Wildlife and numerous Archery disciplines. Shooters at this event were welcome to participate in numerous events.
Representing Marinette County 4-H was Gavin Ollila. He entered in the Junior Air Rifle discipline and placed fourth. He also entered in the Air Rifl e Silhouette discipline and also place fourth in that category. Representing Florence County 4-H was Jonas Eloranta. Jonas also entered in two disciplines.
In the Junior Air Rifle discipline Jonas tied for first place and lost the tie breaker to eventually claim the second place medal. He also entered in the Air Rifle Silhouette and also earned the second place medal in that discipline. Both Gavin and Jonas shot in the junior division, ages 9-11.Two members of the team represented Florence County 4-H in the Intermediate
Age category, ages 12-14. Alexander Erickson and Vandan Pezzullo both entered into three disciplines. Between the two of them they placed fi rst and second in all three disciplines. Vandan placed second in both .22lr Sporter and .22lr Hunter. Vanden earned top honors in the .22lr Silhouette discipline narrowly edging his teammate by a tie breaker. Alexander earned first place medals in both the .22lr Sporter and .22lr Hunter disciplines. He also took home the second place medal in the .22lr Silhouette discipline after Vandan won the tie breaker round.
The Sagola Township Sportsmens Club youth shooting program “Big Shooters” meets regularly on the fi rst Sunday of every month at the Sagola Township Sportsmens Club in Channing. The Big Shooters program teaches youth firearms safety and builds into a competitive
shooting program. Participants in this program enjoy archery, BB gun, air rifle, .22lr rifle, trap shotgun, muzzleloading and soon to be adding pistol. The Big Shooters club regularly competes in American Legion postal shoots, Civilian Marksmanship Program, 4-H Wisconsin and numerous other competitions.
