During the month of May the students and staff at West Iron County Stambaugh Elementary participated in a ‘Can’ Hunger Food Drive. The food drive was in conjunction with the 10th Annual Wykon Family Fun Run 5K to help teach our students to have healthy and giving hearts.
Thrivent of Iron River partnered up with the School to donate $3 per can up to $3000. One hundred percent of all the money and cans will be donated directly to our St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry in Iron River.
The staff and students had a competition to see who could collect the most cans. To sweeten things up, if the students won, there would be a pie smash on their picnic day. Twelve staff members volunteered for the fun with two staff for each grade to pie. The students beat the staff and were able to have some extra fun on their picnic day pie. The students collected 952 cans, staff collected 97 and community members brought over 1000 cans to our Family Fun Run. That is over 2000 cans donated to our local food pantry and $3000.
