IRON RIVER - The West Iron District Library’s Summer Reading Club will once again be in session during June, July and Aug. Each book discussion will be facilitated by Bonnie Wilgreen and will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the J. Patrick White conference room. The public is invited to attend any or all discussions.

The first meeting will take place Thursday, June 20. The novel under discussion is ‘Faith Bass Darling’s Last Garage Sale’ by Lynda Rutledge. Because she believes God told her so, Faith, the richest woman in Bass, Texas, decides to hold a garage sale on the last day of the millennium. With the help of a couple of young boys, she hauls onto her lawn priceless heirlooms and her dearest possessions and prices them at unbelievably low prices, like a Tiffany lamp for $1. Everyone in Bass is drawn to the sale, including Faith’s long-lost daughter, who discovers that many of the antiques Faith is selling hold family secrets.

Thursday, July 25 the discussion will focus on ‘The Measure’ by Nikki Erlick. The story begins in early March with everyone in the entire world of a certain age finding at their door a small wooden box with the inscription, “the measure of your life lies within”. The box holds the knowledge of how long the recipient will live. Thus, the question everyone faces is whether to open the box to learn of one’s time of death or to keep it sealed and remain ignorant of that fact. This novel deals with many different characters who face this dilemma and how each handles it.

The final meeting takes place Thursday, Aug. 22 when the book under discussion is ‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’ by Shelby Van Pelt. Van Pelt’s debut novel tells the story of Tova Sullivan, a widow who works the night shift cleaning the Sowell Bay Aquarium. Tova keeps busy to help deal with not only the loss of her husband, but also the death of her son, who disappeared on a boat 30 years earlier and was never seen again. Tova forms a bond with Marcellus, a huge octopus living at the aquarium. Each will come to understand the other and through their unlikely friendship provide the peace they both seek.

Multiple copies of each novel will be available to check out at the library front desk. For additional information, contact the library at 906-265-2831.
