In only its third year of competition, the Lady Trojan softball team has a winning record, and is focused on winning their conference and making a run at the district championship.

Sporting a record of 12 wins and five losses (12-4 in their conference), the Trojans have won their last four games by convincing margins. On May 16 they defeated Rapid River in both games of a doubleheader, 11 to 1 and 15 to 0. Following up on their success, they took on Munising on May 21 and shut them down 15 to 0 and 20 to 10.

Trojan Coach Kimberly Pekarek emphasizes the importance of teamwork and her players parrot her words. Junior Dalaney Wagner,  an impressive pitcher who recorded three singles, scored four times and threw only three thirteen pitches in three innings in a victory over Rapid River, stated, “We are really learning how to play as a team, getting over the mental humps and trying to be our best.”

One of the players who is clearly being their best is pitcher Kaidince Woollard. Woollard is a team oriented pitcher who threw a no-hitter in the opening game against Munising.

“I would like to thank the defense for helping me with the game because without their hard work it wouldn’t have happened!” stated Woollard.

Coach Pekarek reflected on the team’s success “Coming into this season, we knew we had high potential to compete in our conference. We’ve split doubleheaders this season with a couple teams we have never beaten before, and the girls are seeing their hard work come to fruition!”

Asked what she was hoping for after such a successful season, she stated,”We are looking to make a run at districts on May 31. As a third year program, our goal is to win our first district game in program history.”
