BATES TOWNSHIP – Olympic snowboarding gold medalist Nick Baumgartner has requested to purchase a parcel of land currently within Bates Township Park on Sunset Lake.

Baumgartner told the Bates Township Board of Trustees he wanted the parcel to film for television the building of a structure that would eventually be a home for his parents.

Baumgartner won his first gold medal at the 2022 Olympics, along with teammate Lindsey Jacobellis for the first ever mixed snowboard cross event.

The request is currently under review by the township’s planning commission.

The Reporter’s public records request for more details about Baumgartner’s plan is pending.

The Bates Township Board of Trustees meets the second Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Bates Township Hall. More information is available at batestownship.com.
