AMASA — Gary R. Stroud, 71, passed away Monday, July 13, 2020, at his home on Ned Lake.

He was born Jan. 6, 1949, in Sagola, son of the late Alfred and Helen (Beyers) Stroud. Gary grew up in Sagola and graduated from Channing High School. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War, until his honorable discharge. Gary worked as an Ironworker for Local No. 783 and No. 8, as well as many other self-employed jobs and trades. He owned and operated the Horseshoe Bar in Amasa.

Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and flying his plane. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and taking trips with them out west. Gary wintered in Arizona and loved his camp.

Survivors include two sons, Nick (Michelle) Stroud of Cornell, and Scott Stroud of Crystal Falls; two brothers, Rod and Larry Stroud; one sister, Sharry Sandberg-Stroud; two grandsons, Dylon and Carter; several nieces and nephews; adopted daughter, Lisa Thoune; and his grand dog, Clint.

In addition to his parents, Alfred and Helen, Gary was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Don and Wayne Stroud; and son, Chad.

A party to pay respects to Gary was held on July 18 at the Horseshoe Bar in Amasa.
