Applicants sought for 2023 Youth Conservation Corps

IRONWOOD – Ottawa National Forest is looking for applicants for this summer’s Youth Conservation Corp (YCC) program. This program is designed to accomplish needed conservation work on public lands, provide gainful employment for young men and women, and help develop an understanding and appreciation of the Nation’s natural environment and heritage.
    To participate in the program the applicant must be between 15 through 18 years of age, and a citizen of the United States, its Territories or possessions. Applicants must be a resident of a county within the Ottawa National Forest, State of Michigan.
    Jobs will be located at Forest Service offices across the Ottawa, including the Kenton Ranger District Office in Kenton; the Ontonagon Ranger District Office in Ontonagon; the Bessemer Ranger District Office located in Ironwood and the Watersmeet District Office located in Watersmeet. The rate of pay will be $15 per hour. The employment period will be from June 19, through Aug. 11. Note that the starting date may be changed to accommodate local school calendars that may need to makeup snow days. Selected candidates would be notified of any change prior to the start date. 
Potential enrollees must apply through their school guidance counselor or submit their application directly to the Watersmeet Ranger District Office. All applications must be received in the Watersmeet District Office by March 10. Any application received after that date will not be considered. Enrollees must provide their own transportation to the duty station and no housing will be provided.
