IRON RIVER - The Ottawa National Forest Hagerman Lake Boat Launch is getting a new dock thanks to the generosity of the Hagerman Lake Property Association. The association recently reached out to the Ottawa to see if they could donate a dock. “Our board discussed how we could best help the users of the lake through the lake association dues. We wanted the contribution to go to something that benefits everyone,” said Ryan Meske, President of the Hagerman Lake Property Association. “We had concerns that some of our lake users might slip and fall loading and unloading their crafts. We aren’t getting any younger.”
The 4 foot by 16-foot dock was installed on May 13 by the Hagerman Lake Property Association. The Association has been an active partner with the Ottawa and has helped maintain the boat washing station. In the past, the association also helped maintain the picnic area. “We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of the Hagerman Lake Property Association. It’s because of partners like these that we are able to offer such a variety of recreational experience for our users,” said Tony Crump, acting Forest Supervisor.
The Ottawa has been investing in this boat launch located eight miles from Iron River and Stambaugh with a recent addition of a boat washing station. The boat washing station was installed in 2012 and funded by the Great Lakes Restoration Iniative.
This 585-acre lake is home to a robust population of walleye, northern pike and bluegill. Hagerman Lake also has an active loon population. To find out more about Hagerman Lake facilities visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/ottawa/ or https://hagermanlake.org/.
