IRON COUNTY — The crack of baseball bats and the roar of the crowd will be heard once again as the Iron County Little League season begins.
It is tentatively scheduled, weather permitting, to start the first week of May and goes until the third week of June.
The league will consist of both baseball and softball teams; six for baseball and four for softball. There will also be boys and girls teams.
The age range is boys 7-8 years, 9-10 and 11-12. The girls are 9-12 years and 13-16 in Iron River. Crystal Falls includes a bracket for girls aged 7-8 years as well.
The teams will play at Bachman Park and Nelson Field in Iron River. Crystal Falls games will be held at Runkle Park and at the new baseball field.
Open registration was from Feb. 1 until the middle of March, but youth can still sign up with forms in the school office. There will be sign-up days at both West Iron and Forest Park as well. Registration for next year can be done online.
The league is also in need of umpires. Those interested in volunteering their time can call Garth Soderberg at 906-458-3825.
