CRYSTAL FALLS — The inaugural Mark Nylund Golf Scramble, “The Ny,” was held on June 12 at Crystal View Golf Course. More than 100 golfers, along with volunteers, friends, and family, took part in the event.
Event coordinator Kurt Anderson said that the scramble brought together three of Nylund’s favorite things in life – family, friends and golf.
“Mark Nylund was a major part of our community,” Anderson said. “The event hopes to keep his legacy alive for years to come while funding initiatives in his honor.
“The day was perfect, and all were able to share memories and enjoy a day of golf, food, and drink.”
Anderson said funds will go, in part, toward paying for concussion impact testing for student-athletes (“a program that Mark was instrumental in implementing in Iron County.”)
Additionally, a fund will be set up to help pay for and provide summer sports camps for Forest Park students.
“Mark spent many years working with youth programs at Forest Park. Volunteering his time to coach as well as serving as a trainer through his job as a (physical trainer).”
Anderson, a teacher at Forest Park, said the school district offered thanks for those who made the day a success.
“The golfers and volunteers were amazingly generous. Local businesses also made donations to help offset the costs of the day as well as contribute to the cause.”
