CRYSTAL FALLS — The Lady Trojans split their last four games to remain a solid .500 team. Playing even ball, considering the team has only two juniors and two seniors, bodes well for the future.
On Thursday, May 11 the Trojans took on the Stephenson Eagles and came away with two convincing victories. Outscoring their opponent 26–3 and 19–0, the team scored 11 runs in the first inning of the opener and didn’t look back.
“You never know how good you are until you try your hardest.” said an exuberant Ava Fischer after the team’s victories. “The season has been really great.”
Unfortunately, in their next game on May 16, the team visited Norway and was unable to keep the momentum gained in the victories. Matching up against a very strong Norway team, the Trojans managed to keep the first game close, only trailing 3–0 heading into the fourth inning. The Norway bats came alive in the fourth however, and their offense was helped by some inexperienced fielding. The game was called after four with a final score of Norway 15, Forest Park 0.
In the nightcap, the Trojans found their offense, scoring eight runs, but were doubled up by the Knights and lost in five innings 16–8.
“Heading into our last games on the 25th, we are looking to clean up our defense before heading into the districts on June 2,” said Coach Pekarek.
Audrey Franz, left fielder for the Trojans, summed up the team well.
“I think our confidence has a lot to do with how we play,” she said. “If our confidence is down we don’t play well, but when we’re up as a team than we do well. Going into districts I think a lot of people are expecting us to not do so well, but we really want to prove people wrong. If we keep our energy up, we make contact at the plate and our fielding is strong, we have a pretty good chance of at least making a small run going into districts.”
