CRYSTAL FALLS – The Lady Trojans have one game remaining in the regular season. Their record stands at 5 wins and 15 losses. The team has played well at times, but the inexperienced Trojans have been challenged to be consistent. Their hope for the future rests with a group of talented players all of whom should be returning next year.
In the most recent two games, the Trojans fell behind early and could not recover.
On Feb. 16, the Trojans took on North Dickinson, a team they had previously defeated. The Trojans got off to a slow start and after the first quarter were down 14 - 3. By halftime the score was 24 to 10 and Forest Park struggled to cut into the 14-point lead in the second half. The final score was 46 - 36.
Forest Park Coach Bjork summed up the night, “We couldn’t get our offense rolling in the first quarter. We managed to stick around in the second half, but just couldn’t get over the hump.”
KD Woollard put up nine points and Jessie Loehr eight points and seven rebounds to lead the Trojans.
On Feb. 17 Forest Park matched up against the Purple Hornets of L’Anse.
The Trojans were challenged from the opening minutes and were down 17-10 at the end of the first quarter. After a second quarter during which the Trojans were unable to score, the halftime deficit was 32 - 10.
Impressively, the Trojans emerged from the locker room and scored 16 points in the third quarter, six more than they had scored in the first half. While the Trojans played well during the second half and outscored the Purple Hornets in the fourth quarter, they were never able to cut the deficit and lost 62 - 42.
Junior Lauren Kudwa had an impressive outing, scoring 18 points by sinking four three pointers. Elsie Williams contributed eight and Jessie Loehr led the Trojans with nine rebounds.
