IRON RIVER – The Lady Wykons improved their record to 4 and 3 on the season with an impressive defensive showing against the Kingsford Flivvers on Jan. 3.
The defense was tenacious as they limited their opponent to few quality shots and limited rebounds on both ends of the court.  “Our defense was very good,” Coach Shamion stated.
Coming out of Christmas break the Wykons once again were in a nip and tuck game which saw them trailing 10 -9 at the end of the first quarter and 17-16 at the half.  Like every game this year, the game captivated the interest of the fans who came out to see a good game and were not disappointed.
Emerging from halftime the Wykons controlled the game and scored 14 points in the third quarter compared to the Flivvers 6.
The game swung West Iron’s way and finished with Danica Shamion scoring an impressive six points in the fourth quarter.
Coach Shamion was excited to see his team’s effort after the Christmas break. “Although we struggled with turnovers, we made a nice run in the third quarter and hopefully we can build off this victory.”
Danica Shamion led the team with 13 points, followed by Harty (8), Pellizer (7), Stine (6) and Guzowski (5).  With a cadre of contributors, the team once again showed they were well prepared and ready to compete!
