CRYSTAL FALLS - All Conference volleyball awards were announced by the Skyline Conference coaches on Oct. 30 to vote for the All Conference Volleyball Awards. The Lady Trojans, who were Conference Champions at both the junior varsity and varsity levels and were undefeated at the varsity level in Conference play, received myriad awards.

Junior Audrey Franz was honored as Defensive Player of the Year, while seniors Leah Feldhousen and Ema Stepien earned places on the First Team All Conference. Sophomores Ava Fischer and Elsie Williams made Second Team All Conference.

Being named Defensive Player of the Year was the culmination of Franz’s years of hard work. She still has a year ahead of her at Forest Park and is beginning to think about possibly playing in college.

“I started playing club ball in eighth grade and train as much as I can both in and off season,” Franz said. “I haven’t heard from colleges yet, but I hope that will happen in my senior year.”

Franz was hesitant when Coach Bobbie Jo Anderson asked her to try a new position this year but decided to give it her best.

I’ve always played front row in the past, but this is my first time fully playing back row,” she said. “I can read the hitters well and I hustle for the ball, but it was an adjustment.

“The team is so encouraging and keeps my mood up and although I think there are definitely games I could have played better, the coaches have been very supportive and they let me know how proud they are and that keeps me motivated.”
