Wykons knock off weary Marquette for third win

  • West Iron senior Kali Applin returned to action on Aug. 23 after a week layoff because of illness. In her first match of the season, Applin dropped the first set to Marquette’s Annabella Martinson 6-3, but then quickly rebounded to win the second 6-0. Martinson, who along with her teammates had played earlier in the day against Kingsford, retired after the second set because of dizziness to give Applin the win.

IRON RIVER — For the West Iron County girls tennis team, the 6-2 victory over Marquette on Aug. 23 was a building block as the Wykons move into the heart of their schedule with three straight wins.
