LANSING — Steven John Sarder, known on stage as "Word E Smith," passed away Aug. 5, 2025, in Lansing, surrounded by the deep love of his family and friends. A private family and friends service will be held Aug. 30, at Bates Township Cemetery. A memorial celebration in Lansing will be scheduled and announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local animal shelter—a reflection of Steve's lifelong love for animals.
